Mine Games, 2000

Digital editing, inkjet print on canvas, variable dimensions, Edition of 2.

Private collection

These images come from old calendars and are reproductions of the chromolithographs that hung in private homes in North America. Blain transfers these images onto canvas and surreptitiously contaminates them with the same land mines motif found in Rug. Centered below the image is the name of one of the countries where these mines are produced. But none of these images corresponds to the country it suppose to represent, a shift is created making the image that much more intriguing. The chameleon method has its effect, but the harmonious arrangement of these “paintings”, in close proximity to each other, feigning the pretty picture of these bucolic landscapes, adds to the two-faced proposition of the decorative image.
