Inkjet print on rag paper, 50 x 92 cm, Edition of 7

Image taken from the Blancs de mémoire (Rwanda) video.

The title Blancs de mémoire refers to the book by Georges Anglade, a Haitian intellectual exiled in Montréal who perished in the 2010 earthquake. It features a photograph of refugees facing an invisible border. This photograph was found in the archives of the United Nations image bank in the early 1990s. It is in fact Ugandan refugees turned away at the Rwandan border of Kagitumba in 1982.
